Reading the search terms report
6 minutes, 10 steps, workout 5 of 6 in this module
The keyword list looks clean, yet the monthly invoice keeps growing and sales don't. The answer usually sits in a report that's easy to ignore: the list of what people actually typed before they clicked. Someone has to go through it every week, block the searches that cost money and will never buy, and leave alone the odd-sounding ones that do convert. If that someone is you, it's one of the quickest ways to show a client you're watching their money.
What you'll be able to do
By the end of this workout, you'll be able to read the search terms report, decide which terms to block and which to protect, and know why the report never shows every search.
A first look: Keyword vs. search term
A keyword is what you bid on. A search term is what the person typed. The report shows each search term with the match type and the keyword that matched, so you can see what your keywords really attract.

Answer: B. The search terms report
The search terms report lists real searches that triggered your ads on the Search Network. It's the one place to see the gap between your keywords and what people typed.
The other steps work the same way: you decide first, then see why each option is right or wrong.
